Speaking on Friday, October 17, Oburu dispelled rumors that suggested Raila had asked to be buried next to his mother in his will.
“I would like to clarify something that has been in the media. This issue of where Raila’s grave is or where Raila will be buried, somewhere. Journalists have been saying that in Raila’s will, he said he wanted to be buried next to his mother and that we have confirmed, and now we are burying him next to his father. Nothing could be further from the truth,” Oburu said.
Where will Raila be buried?
The Siaya senator who is also the co-chairman of the national funeral committee for Raila, explained that he has seen the will and is aware of the last wishes of the former prime minister.
“The will clearly states that Raila would like to be buried where his father and mother were buried. That is where Raila will be buried,” he added.
The parents of the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) were buried in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi compound in the area of BondoSiaya county.
Oburu said whether Raila will be buried next to his mother or father is not an issue and should not matter to the public.
“Whether it is close to father or mother, both are his parents, and that was our decision. Thank you all, and pray for peace,” Oburu said.

A man identified as Japheth Siome, who participated in the excavation, opened up about his feelings of accomplishment.
Siome, the medical supervisor at Usigu Sub-County Hospital in Bondo, joined a group of men from the area to dig the grave of the fallen politician.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Siome described the exercise as the best gift he could give to the politician who spent most of his life fighting for democracy in the country.
The first steps in the preparation of the grave were done using a digger, but manual labor was used because of the hardness of the ground.
