Lengo Karissa Mudzomba surprised many during a CORD political meeting in 2014 when she emerged from the crowd and flogged Raila, who was then the leader of the failed political coalition.
Speaking to NTVGoal Karissa Mudzomba publicly apologized for the incident, saying she tried to reach the former prime minister to apologize.
He explained that he remembers how he started sweating profusely after he was arrested for beating Raila and Mvurya.
Two days after the incident he was arrested and charged, but he was released after paying a fine of KSh 2,500 which was paid by the organization Haki Africa.
The case was dropped after Raila publicly forgave him.
“I know he is dead now, but I am still asking for forgiveness. Raila was a great leader to emulate. Even for his family, don’t worry, they are also heroes,” he said.
The old man said he really wanted to meet Raila in person to apologize.
“I didn’t get a chance to apologize to Raila Odinga while he was alive, and that will haunt me for the rest of my life,” he added sadly.
Kenyans comment on Mudzomba’s pardon
Some Kenyans expressed their opinion after the old man apologized:
Hezbon said:
“For his age, this old man should have been a little ashamed or used his mind to see that the action was stupid. 🤔🤔🤔 Some old people humiliate themselves with stupid actions like that; these are the things of young people, not a person of this age! 🤦”
Leah Morrison wrote:
“If he had done that interview long ago, it would have reached Raila one way or another. Now he is gone. The dead do not ask for forgiveness, should he come now when his soul is no longer alive?”
Ephy Ann said:
“It is true that Raila was more than a leader… if it had been anyone else, this old man would have disappeared on the same day. It means that Raila decided to forgive him and ordered his release. Long live The King.”
Raila’s staff cried for him
In other news, workers at Raila’s farm in Opoda have also mourned him with touching words.
They described him as a father who treated them as his children.
“His death has shocked me. I can’t believe it. I pray to God to rest his soul in the right place. I’m sorry for Ida’s mother. Here at home we don’t live like workers; we live like their children,” said one of the workers.
