His brother, Oburu Oginga, later confirmed that Raila suffered a heart attack with his youngest daughter, Winnie, while they were walking in the morning.
The sad news has left millions of Kenyans sad, including leaders who once had a political quarrel with him but later reconciled, among them, the former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Following the news of Raila’s death, high level leaders arrived at Mama’s residence Ida Odinga Karen to comfort the family.
Among those who visited was former president Uhuru Kenyatta, accompanied by his wife, former first lady Margaret Kenyatta.
Initially, only photos from the tour were shared online, giving a glimpse but not a complete picture of the feeling in the room.
However, a video that is now circulating on the internet has revealed the depth of Uhuru’s pain when he arrived at Raila’s house to mourn with Mama Ida.
Uhuru was seen hugging Mama Ida with passion while breaking her shoulder.
The former head of state looked emotional, sobbing softly as he shook his head in disbelief.
After a long hug, Uhuru is heard consoling Mama Ida, whispering:
“I’m so sorry,” while still trying to come to terms with the loss.
Margaret was also seen giving Mama Ida a warm hug before giving her quiet words of encouragement.
Via X, the retired Rasi said:
“Hon Raila Amolo Odinga’s enduring legacy of perseverance and leadership will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations. To Mama Ida, the children, and the entire Odinga family, I send my deepest condolences. You have shared Baba and Kenya for life, and we mourn with you.”

Were Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga friends?
Raila’s relationship with Uhuru changed over the years, from bitter political rivals to close allies.
Their friendship changed in 2019 when the two leaders buried their differences and shook hands in a historic pact that came to be known as the handshake.
From that moment onwards, Uhuru stood firm on Raila’s side, even campaigning for him in the 2022 General Election despite his own deputy becoming President William Rutoalso be on the ballot.

What you need to know about Raila Odinga’s funeral
President William Ruto announced that the former prime minister will be given a national funeral today, Friday, October 17.
The last rites of the veteran politician’s funeral are scheduled for Sunday, October 19, at his home in the village.
According to Oburu’s brother, the ceremony will be private and will be attended by few family members, while Raila is expected to be buried next to his mother.
