Family, friends, associates, and supporters of the former prime minister Raila Odinga have gathered at the Nyayo Stadium for the national funeral service.

Raila died in India, where he was receiving treatment after falling during a morning walk and then suffering a heart attack.
His daughter, Rosemary Odinga, while speaking during the service, remembered with great pain when she found out that her beloved father had passed away.

Standing on stage with her two beautiful daughters, Safi and Senai, Rosemary explained how the news of her father’s death hurt her.

“I know we are all in pain and we are mourning. Raila was not only our father, he was the father of each one of us here today,” he said sadly.
The grieving daughter described Raila as her advisor, friend, and the one who understood her the most.

He remembered feeling confused, not knowing what to do, he received a sad phone call from his younger brother, saying he was still struggling to come to terms with the great loss.
“I remember the day I received the news. I was sitting at the table, finishing my breakfast, when my brother Junior called me. He asked me where I was, I told him. Then he told me to sit down. I was confused, wondering if I should sit under the floor or on the table. But Junior told me that our father was no longer with us,” he remembered sadly.
Rosemary thanked Kenyans for supporting them and standing with their family during the time of grief, wishing God’s blessings to reach all who loved her father.
“Thank you all, may God give us strength, and mother, may you have the patience to endure,” he concluded his speech.
