Raila Odinga Junior Breaks Silence After His Father’s Death: “Thank You Father”

Raila died on Wednesday, October 15, after suffering a heart attack while taking a morning walk with his daughter Winnie Odinga.

Respecting his wish to be buried within 72 hours of his death, funeral arrangements have been made quickly.

His body was transported from India, where he died, and later placed Kasarani Stadium on Thursday, October 16, where families and various leaders had the opportunity to see it.

The national funeral service is scheduled to take place today, Friday, October 17, at Nyayo Stadium, before the final burial on Sunday, October 19.

What did Raila Odinga Junior say about his father’s death?

In this series of sad events, Odinga’s family has not had much time to deal with their feelings.

Among them, Raila Odinga Junior seemed to be most affected by the death of his father.

When the family went to see Raila’s body at Kasarani, Junior looked very sad as he said goodbye to his father, who was his role model.

He reached out and touched his father’s coffin, standing silently for a long time beside his sister Rosemary, then made the sign of the cross and quietly left.

After finding the strength to face the reality of the tragedy, Junior broke his silence.

Through his X account, he shared a touching video that collected important memories of his father’s life — from political campaigns, family celebrations, to old memories with his late father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, as well as loving moments with his wife, Ida.

The video was accompanied by Raila’s own voice singing the Kiswahili version of his favorite song Jamaica Farewell:

“Jowi, jowi, jowi, I left to go on a trip and left mine alone, when I arrived I took a pen and said I left mine alone, I didn’t know the day of my return but my love, don’t doubt that I must come back.”

Junior wrote short words but with a lot of emotional weight saying:
“Thank you, Father.”
