Citizen TV visited the area and showed the quiet and dignified place that will be the last abode of the political legend.
Raila Odinga’s final resting place
The cemetery, which is of great importance to the Odinga family, already contains the coffins of some prominent members of the family.
Among them are Raila’s father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, who was the First Vice President of Kenya, who passed away in 1994, and his mother, Mary Odhiambo Odinga, who died in 1984.
Raila’s son, Fidel Odinga, who passed away in 2015, is also buried there, along with his brother Fredrick Odima, who died in 1971 at the age of 21.
Mathew Otieno, the manager of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Museum, gave details about the arrangement of the graves while speaking at the site.
He explained that Raila’s mother’s grave is on top of the cemetery area, and others are arranged according to the age of those admitted there.
Will Raila be buried next to his mother’s grave?
Otieno clarified that, although it is not known if Raila wished to be buried next to his mother, he did not receive any instructions to that effect from his elder brother, Oburu Oginga.
Otieno also shared personal memories of Raila, describing him as a supportive and caring leader.
“He has been my boss for a long time. It is a very big blow to me. He is the one who made me what I am today. He was not someone to ignore me even when he had a great status. I have worked with him for 20 years,” said Otieno.
