What happened to Raila Odinga?

Before his death, Raila had breathing problems that caused him to faint at 7:45 am during his morning walk.

He was then rushed to Devamatha Hospital for treatment, but his health deteriorated rapidly.

Doctors at the center said that Raila suffered a heart attack and died.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, October 15, Dr Fons, a cardiologist at Devamatha Hospital, gave an analysis of the efforts made to save Raila Odinga’s life.

He said that after Raila arrived at the center, they started providing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) service.

This method can save lives after a heart attack by helping to supply blood to the brain and other vital organs when the heart stops or beats irregularly.

When CPR proved ineffective, Fons said they tried other methods, including placing a tube in Raila’s breathing system, but these also failed to improve his condition.

He was later transferred to a fully staffed intensive care unit (ICU). They managed to calm him down for a while

“We continued with CPR and other measures. Despite these efforts, he did not survive. We regret to inform you that he is no longer with us. We send our prayers and condolences to his family and the people of Kenya,” Fons said.

Fons also gave Raila’s medical history when he was brought to the center for emergency care.

“He had diabetes and high blood pressure. He was chronically ill. He had a right lower limb DVT that he was placed on an IVC catheter,” he added.
