Oburu Oginga Urges Mourners To Allow The Caravan Carrying Raila’s Body To Reach Lee Funeral

The former ODM leader passed away after suffering a heart attack during a morning walk.

Raila had traveled to India to seek medical treatment.

Did Raila’s body reach Lee Funeral Home?

After being touched, Raila’s body was received by government officials, including President William Ruto and his family, including his wife, Ida.

The funeral committee had announced that the next stop would be Lee Funeral Home, before the public viewing at Parliament House.

However, chaos broke out as hundreds of mourners took to the streets to accompany the body of the late politician to Lee Funeral Home.

Mombasa Road was flooded with mourners, which brought traffic to a standstill and reduced the procession.

Amid the commotion, Raila’s brother, Oburu Oginga, climbed atop one of the vehicles in the procession, pleading with the mourners to allow the procession to move.

He even used the public address system and spoke to the crowd in Dholuo, but his appeals were drowned out by chants and shouts.

Deputy President Kithur Kindiki he intervened, urging the crowd to remain respectful and allow Raila’s family to pay their last respects.

“The family of our late leader is here. They have been asking if you can allow his children, his wife and other family members to pay their last respects, as the body will be taken to the Parliament to be viewed by the public,” he said.

Cabinet Secretary Dating Murkomen and the governor of Homa Bay county, Gladys Wanga, also intervened as the situation worsened, and finally Governor Wanga persuaded the mourners to allow the procession to continue, although it is progressing slowly.

October 17 will be a public holiday?

In related news, TUKO.co.ke reported that President William Ruto’s government declared Friday, October 17, a public holiday.

The announcement was made in a government gazette notice published on Thursday, October 16.

The holiday will be celebrated to honor the late former prime minister with a national funeral service at Nyayo Stadium.

The last funeral service will be held at his home in the village on Sunday, October 19.
