The famous politician died of a heart attack in India, where he had gone to seek treatment with his youngest daughter, Winnie Odingaand his sister, Ruth Odinga.
How did Winnie respect Raila?
Since his death, Winnie has been at the forefront of ensuring that her father is given the respect he deserves as a national hero.
In India, after a message led by the Prime Minister of the Council of Ministers, Stay Mudavadiarriving to collect Raila’s body, Winnie was seen covering his simple coffin with a Kenyan flag and carefully placing his famous white hat on the coffin’s head.
During the flight back to Kenya on Kenya Airways flight no RAO001the hat was reportedly kept on his only seat for the entire trip.
When she landed in the country, Winnie got off the plane holding the hat, then joined the family who had come to receive Raila’s body.
Mama Ida receives Raila’s valuables
As the mourning continued, several moving pictures of their family meeting President William Ruto went viral, showing the moment Winnie presented her mother, Ida Odinga, with Raila’s famous hat.

About the death of Raila Odinga
President William Ruto announced seven days of mourning in honor of the veteran politician.
Deputy President Kithur Kindiki confirmed that the funeral will take place on Sunday, October 19, while a national service is scheduled for Friday, October 17.
Former president Uhuru Kenyatta and his wife Margaret visited Raila’s widow, where Uhuru remembered Raila as true brother and friend.
Did Oburu Oginga talk to Raila before he died?
Oburu Oginga, Raila’s elder brother, tried hard to pay his respects to his brother after his sudden death.
He revealed that they spoke on the phone a few hours before Raila died.
According to Oburu, Raila was in good health the night before he died.
