The chief environmental officer confirmed that the last trapped passenger had been rescued, although there was a fear that the man died of injuries.
“A man displaced by the bus has been rescued, but it seems the victim is dead. Police officers will take the body to the mortuary and inform the family,” Mosiria said.
He called on the legal and transport authority to restore the traffic laws of the Michaki, emphasizing the need for a strong implementation of the use of safety belts, speed governors and speeding in cities to protect life.
“Drivers must make sure passengers lock safety belts and that motion controls are restored. Fatigue also contributes to events like this – if you have worked all day, please rest,” He encouraged.
4 people died and several others injured in a Waruku accident
Mosiria’s concern came just days after another fatal accident involving a Latema Sacco bus, which lost focus and plunged into the Nairobi River, with more than 30 passengers.
The incident occurred in the Waruku area when the bus was heading Kawangware 56 through the Gatina Road.
Following the incident, four passengers died, while others were rushed to nearby health facilities, including Kenyatta National Hospital, for immediate treatment.
According to Mosiria, the road was narrow enough to carry such buses, and the driver who also perished was reportedly not knowing the route.
