Police launch a search after a Catholic priest disappeared

The Archbishop of the Catholic Church of Songea Damian Dallu has announced the disappearance of Father Camillus Nikata who is a lecturer at the University of St. Augustine TanzaniaMwanza.

In a statement released on Friday, October 25, Bishop Dallu said that the Patriarch I was not available by phone.

The bishop explained that the Patriarch had left Dodoma to attend a seminar on the priests teaching in the universities, accompanied by a fellow lecturer from the region.

How did the Catholic priest disappear?

It was reported that he had planned to travel to Mwanza on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, by bus and had already bought a ticket online.

The report further states that when they started looking for him on Wednesday afternoon, they realized he did not travel, as his luggage was still in his closed room, and the keys were not returned to the Priest House attendant.

Efforts to call and ask the people he was with was unsuccessful, and he was also not found in Mwanza, where he had planned to arrive.

The bus office confirmed that he did not board the bus.

After efforts to find him failed, Bishop Dallu said that they had already reported the matter to the police to help find the priest.

Police confirmed that a statement was released on Thursday, and an investigation is continuing to search for him.
