Deputy President Kithure Kindiki again vowed to court Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka into the Kenya Kwanza party, claiming he has not lost hope in persuading him to join from the opposition.
Addressing grassroots leaders from Kitui County on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Kindiki praised Kalonzo as a respectable statesman who had, regrettably, been surrounded by the wrong political allies.
“Kalonzo is a noble and decent man, but he has aligned himself with people promoting divisive rhetoric. I have still not given up on that brother of mine. We cannot accept our brother, a learned man and a scholar, to be influenced by people promoting sectarianism,” Kindiki said.
The DP also warned politicians against exploiting ethnic differences for political gain, stressing that incitement only deepens divisions among Kenyans.
“I want to urge those in politics to stay away from inciting Kenyans and sowing division and wars among wananchi. Let everyone sell his policies, and those who agree with you will vote for you,” he stated.
Kindiki further outlined the government’s vision of building a new and united Kenya where leaders separate politics from development.
“We are on the road to build a new and united Kenya where everyone’s rights are upheld and one that differentiates time for politics and time for development,” he said.
He reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza government would keep engaging leaders from all political divides to drive development in every area. Political affiliations, he said, should never be used to discriminate against citizens.
“We will continue working with your leaders, both elected and appointed, to speed up development,” he added. “We have categorically said that all citizens have a right to a fair share and fair services. We have those who did not vote for us during the last elections, but they will be in the front line to do so this time.”
However, Kalonzo has remained adamant in rejecting overtures from the government. His firm position has triggered political tension within Kenya Kwanza, especially after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua openly told President William Ruto to stop sending emissaries to reach Kalonzo.
On Saturday, September 20, 2025, Gachagua accused the President of meddling in what he described as “family affairs,” insisting that he should speak to him directly if he wanted to engage Kalonzo.
“Sisi na nyinyi we are one family. Sindio. Wakati umefika familia ikae pamoja. Na tunaambia Ruto, keep off family matters, sindio? Wewe unatumana ati kila siku watu yako watafute huyu Kalonzo, please, wewe ukitaka Kalonzo uongee na mimi. Yes. Sisi tumeketi na Kalonzo, na viongozi wa Wakamba, na Wakikuyu, na Wameru na Waembu na nimeambiwa for the time being, I’m the family’s spokesman. So wewe kama unataka kuongea na Kalonzo, hapana tumia brokers. Kuja unitafute,” Gachagua declared.
