This is happening as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has begun implementing voter registration across the country.
How many tags are not taken?
Speaking to reporters on Friday, October 3, Murkomen said they have approximately 400,000 unplanned IDs.
He emphasized the importance of the identities noting that they would help Kenyans register to vote for the 2027 -speed election.
“I want to ask Kenyans please take their IDs. We have 400,000 unplanned IDs, which means about 270,000 or 80,000 are those who change their IDs, and about 150,000 are the ones who take it for the first time. We have a lot of tags in our offices across the country,” Murkomen said.

He also revealed that during the security forum version, the Prime Minister agreed with the chiefs that they would come up with ways to get them to send the IDs to the rural areas.
“I want to encourage many Kenyans who are enrolled in their villages. They have to make sure they take their IDs,” Murkomen insisted.
Can foreigners register as voters in Kenya?
Murkomen emphasized that the ministry has ensured that refugees and foreigners in the country can register as voters.
He emphasized that the move would ensure that the visitors access services using their cards.
