The fire that broke out on Friday, October 3, consumed a boarding school at Malava Boys in Kakamega County, causing serious loss of property.

The incident occurred around 5am, when students had already left the board for morning preparation. The blaze spread quickly in the 189 -bed board, and consumed personal properties that included uniforms, books and bedding.
Firefighters from Kakamega County responded soon after being notified. Their rapid intervention prevented the fire from spreading to dormitories and adjacent classes, avoiding a larger catastrophe.
The authorities later confirmed that no student was injured during the incident as the students were in the classroom when the fire broke out. However, the damage left many students without essential school items, and increased emotional and financial stress for the family.
Education officials and county officials visited the school to assess the situation and promise assistance to affected students.
Kakamega County Education Director Stephen Aberi confirmed the case, noting that the investigation is continuing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
