The opposition coalition once again came under a microscope on Friday, October 3, when key people from the coalition visited Kajiado for a voting exercise.
This has been largely attributed to the threat of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of the Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) at the Mount Kenya camp with the most votes.
Kajiado’s visit was intended to show a single position against Kenya first of President William Ruto, especially in areas where opposition seeks to unite before the 2027 elections.
The visit, however, attracted the absence of former Internal Security Minister Fred Matiang’i.
On the contrary, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka expressed his excitement from dating Kajiado residents.
Through a social network post, Kalonzo described the union as a “waiting government” and expressed belief in its ability to oppose the incumbent regime.
“I look forward to interacting with the citizens of Kajiado County in the Bisil parliament, the Kajiado Central Parliament today with my colleagues in The Government-in-Waiting,” Kalonzo wrote.
The post consisted of pictures of other opposition leaders who attended the event, including Rigathi Gacha of the DCP, Eugene Wamalwa of Democratic Action Party, and Justin Muturi of the Democratic Party of Kenya.
Why did Kenyans doubt the absence of Matiang’i?
Online photos showed solidarity and unity, but the absence of Matiang’i did not pass unnoticed.
Social network users immediately touched on the absence of People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua and Matiang’i in the ranks of leaders.
The question became inspired, creating an image that the united ‘united opposition’ is likely to be at stake.

Although the PLP leader was also absent, a great view was set for Matiang’i due to its growing popularity and its influence in the spheres of opposition.
The absence of Matiang’i has continued to stimulate divisions negotiations as opposition leaders also failed to attend a meeting of members of the Jubilee party.
Hon Back:
“If this is the unity then Ruto leads early. ”
Steve Mkiki:
“The opposition will fall unless you unite and focus on important politicians like Dr. Fred Matiang’i. Putting him aside will cost them. Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka use diplomacy!”
Entuga Cyrus Ondieki Mweresa:
“If Matiang’i is not there it will never be called united opposition but is a visit to a confused opposition.”
Kihara Kimotho:
“Good development agendas are what we are waiting for ,,,,, as to who should be president is important ,,,,, do not get involved with the divisive disputes, whoever you elect we will cast our votes without hesitation.”
CONTACT BLESD WESTLYF:
“Without Matiang’i is a dead project before it starts … the chapter of strong opposition is just one, Fred Matiang’i.”
