Joseph Kabila: Former President of the DRC sentenced to death for war crimes

A military court in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has issued a death sentence to former president Joseph Kabila.

The tribe, who served as the fourth president of the DRC between 2001 and 2019, was found guilty of treason and crime against humanity, among other offenses.

The former president was also found guilty of murder, sexual assault, torture and rebellion.

He was increasingly accused of conspiracy and supporting terrorist acts.

The court noted that the offenses that the tribe was accused of were too bad to impose penalties other than death.

“In using section 7 of the military penal code, it gives one sentence, which is the most severe, which is the death penalty,” The court said.

Kabila left the DRC after resigning in 2019. He is unknown to date.

His first return to the DRC after many years was in April this year, when he visited war zones in the eastern part of the country. He would disappear again.

The tribe faced allegations of reliance on the M23 rebel side, who control a large area in the largest mineral area in the eastern DRC.

His case was conducted without his presence but was represented by his team of lawyers.

The ruling on Tuesday, September 30, was adopted by Lieutenant General Joseph Mutombo Katalayi.

The state prosecutor followed the ruling, seeking to convince the court that Kabila was a criminal, since, among other things, he cooperated with the M23 rebels when they launched an attack in the eastern DRC to capture key cities like Goma.

He denied all the charges he had been released.

His misery intensified after the Congo Senate voted to remove immunity against charges that the Congolese presidents and former presidents enjoyed.

The tribe opposed the Senate action, saying it was dictatorial.

The 54 -year -old succeeded his father, Laurent Kabila, who led the DRC between 1997 and 2001, after replacing Mobutu Seseseko after the revolution.
