Elijah Kiptarbei Lagat died on Tuesday morning, September 30.
Until his death, Lagat served as a member of the national campaign board against drug abuse authorities.
Lagat, born on June 19, 1966, entered parliament for the first time in 2007 with an ODM ticket, representing the Emgwen parliamentary constituency.
Following the Emgwen division in two constituencies, he was elected in 2013 as the first Chesumei MP under the Jubilee party, marking his return to the national parliament.
During his parliamentary session, Lagat held several leadership positions, including the Vice Chairman of the Labor and Social Welfare Committee, Chairman of the Sports Subcommittee, Vice Chairman of the Catering and Health Services Committee, and Chairman of the Health Services Subcommittee.
Lagat also served as Deputy Human Resources Manager in Nandi County for five years.

Outside of politics, Lagat was a prominent athlete. He won the 104th Boston Marathon race in 2000 and represented Kenya at various international sports events.

He had a first degree of art and an adult education diploma from the University of East Africa, Baraton.
His death signifies the loss of a respected leader and a reporter whose legacy is about public service and athletic quality.
Governor Stephen Sang mourns Elijah Lagat
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has expressed deep sadness following Lagat’s death.
In his honor, Sang described Lagat as a prominent leader whose legacy will be remembered in parliament and among the people he served humbly and dedicated.
He praised Lagat’s commitment to negotiations and participation, noting his leadership approach to leadership that ensured the voters’ voices were heard and respected.
“On my behalf and on behalf of the people of Nandi County, I send our condolences to his family, friends, Chesumei people, and all Kenyans who mourn this great tragedy. His soul rest in eternal peace,” Sang said.

Former Tetu MP Francis Nyammo dies
Other news, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula mourned the death of former Tetu MP, Francis Thombe Nyammo, who died on the morning of his birthday, Sunday, September 28.
Nyammo served as a Tetu MP from 2008 to 2013 and was highly respected for his leadership, commitment to public service, and commitment to social welfare.
His contributions were more widespread in politics in business and development rural, leaving behind the legacy that touched the lives of many.
Wetang’ula sent his condolences to the Nyammo family, friends, and Tetu people, recognizing the huge losses felt across the country.
