The tragic accident happened on Sunday, September 28, in Elementaita area near Kopey, Gilgil, on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
According to preliminary reports, the accident involving a passenger car, truck and private vehicle, occurred when Threecarrying the people heading towards a family ceremony in Nakuru, was passing another car.
Three people, including two children, survived the tragic accident and were rushed to Gilgil County Hospital for treatment.
How did Steven Weru survive in the Kopey accident?
Steven Weru, who was heading for Kisumuhe described his recovery by remaining alive after surviving the accident with a needle.
Weru was driving a private car and witnessed the whole incident happening in front of his eyes.
“I was behind three, and when the accident happened, I couldn’t go back, so the only option was to get my car out of the road. Said Weru.
He noted that when his car stopped, he went out and tried to help those who were trapped within three.
“I tried to help; even the baby, we handed him over to the ambulance. I had to break the front mirror with my hands. He said while showing his bleeding hand.
Samuel Ngugi, a resident who witnessed the accident, said three was passing a private car.
He explained that when the driver tried to return to his right path, there was not enough space and it collided with the coming truck.
What caused the Kopey accident?
Nakuru Police Commander, Emmanuel Epuru, confirmed the incident and said an investigation had been started to determine the cause of the fatal accident.
“It’s three ATS SACCO, and this is not a car that usually travels on this road. I think it was their first time to pass this road. Other cars are probably the source of the accident because this road is narrow, and when passing, the probability of such events is very high,” Said Epuru.
The deceased’s bodies were transported to the mortuary of the Gilgil County Hospital.
