Tharaka Nithi: The disaster hit the University of Tharaka after a massive fire hit the institutional management area early on Wednesday, September 24.

The fire, a few minutes before 6pm, quickly spread and consumed the head office, including the Vice -Chancellor’s Office, the ICT Department and some lecture halls.
What caused Tharaka University fire?
A nearby building with a university’s media studio was also reported to be ruins.
According to early reports, the fire may have been caused by an electrical error, although this has not yet been confirmed.

Photos that TUKO.co.ke noticed showed large flames of fire from the building as students and people of neighboring communities rush to help deal with the fire.
Eyewitnesses said efforts to prevent the fire were interrupted by delays in arrival of fire extinguishers from the cities of Kathwana and Chuka.
Students expressed their sadness in the Institute’s Facebook group, blaming the delayed answer and saying that the fireworks were running out of water just minutes after the arrival.

“The fire spread very quickly. When the engines arrived here, a large part of the building was already gone. Then the water was stopped immediately,” The student complained on Facebook.
“If there are no fire extinguishers in Marimanti, then Tharaka Nithi County is far behind. From Chuka to Tharaka University is long distance,” Another added.
The documents believed to be saved from the Vice -Chancellor’s Office were seen spreading to the ground as the flames continued to burn the building.

The degree of damage has not yet been fully evaluated, but preliminary reports indicate that a large part of the management area has been left in ruins.
