Kericho: Students at Litein Boys’ High School have been reported to pay KSh 137,000 each following the chaos witnessed on Sunday, September 21.

The school was temporarily turned off following a violent student protest by the government to refuse to allow students to watch the Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal.

The unrest resulted in severe destruction of school property and allegations of school resources, which led to the authorities suspended and assess the situation.

According to reports, students turned off all lights within the Boma, defeating security officers and police, and continued to destroy the property under the dark.

Videos and images widely distributed on social networks caught the burnt dormitories and classes with smoke while the flames burned down school buildings.

In response to the damage, the school announced that every student would have to pay a huge fine to cover the cost of repairs before resuming the studies.

In addition, other institutions have been commissioned to not qualify any student from Litein Boys, a move aimed at ending discipline and strengthening accountability.

Kericho Governor Eric Mutai revealed that at least ten students were arrested following the riots.

CCTV photos have been reported to catch some students armed, including swords and knives, during the chaos.

In addition, he announced plans to convene a special meeting with officials from the Ministry of Education to address the broader systemic issues related to the school.
