Detectives in Kiambu Sub-County have arrested five suspects linked to a kidnapping in Ruaka and rescued the victim in a dramatic operation.
The incident unfolded after the victim’s girlfriend called his phone, only for an unknown voice to demand a ransom of Ksh500,000 for his safe release. Alarmed, she alerted the authorities, prompting detectives to act swiftly.
Using intelligence leads, officers tracked the suspects to Ithanga, where they found the victim with visible injuries and a blood-stained shirt. The rescue mission also led to the arrest of five suspects near Quickmatt Thindigua. Police identified them as Sydney Ezra Achanda, John Louise Omondi, Enock Sum Cheruyot, Peter Kanini Mwangi, and Lucy Sara Muhonja.
During the operation, detectives impounded two vehicles believed to have been used in the crime – a Suzuki Swift (KDD 841D) and a Mazda Demio (KDP 468Y). A search of the cars uncovered a kitchen knife, ten assorted mobile phones, and a tablet, all linked to the kidnapping.
At the time of their arrest, the suspects had already received Ksh68,000 in ransom. Police confirmed the five suspects are in custody and will be arraigned once investigations conclude.
