Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has insisted on opposing any possibility of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to support President William Ruto’s re -election 2027.

His remarks came to light after party leader Raila Odinga dismissed allegations that ODM had canceled the presentation of the presidential candidate in the next general election.

On Monday, September 22, Raila addressed a meeting of the ODM MPs, in which he warned members against closing the party with an unconstitutional agreement.

The former prime minister stressed that the party had not passed any resolution on the 2027 elections, reminding MPs that ODM still had the option of naming its candidate.

“We signed up and agreed that we would cooperate until 2027. Raila told the MPs.

Further explained that the March 2025 compromise agreement between ODM and the democratic alliance of Ruto (UDA) did not continue until the next election.

His statement appeared to stop the rumors of several weeks following the approval of the public and some of the ODM champions who are now serving in his cabinet.

The ODM Secretary -General’s response was a fierce reminder of its long -standing opposition to any plan that would make the party support Ruto 2027.

Sifuna has repeatedly warned that the ODM close to Kenya first could ruin the party’s identity and exclude its main supporters.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, a close ally of Sifuna, also welcomed Raila’s commentary.

In a separate statement through X, Amisi warned against undermining Raila’s political stability.

The young MP emphasized that the ODM leader has always succeeded in conforming to the wishes of the people.

“I told the people of UDAdon’t be sure of the father. The father will go where Kenyans will be, and many Kenyans want William Ruto to leave the office like yesterday, ” Amisi said.

Is ODM split?

The debate over the future of ODM has been fueled by the increase in divisions within the Orange Party, which celebrates 20 years of existence.

On the one hand are leaders like Sunya and young MPs relying on the “Kenya” group, who insist ODM must maintain its independence.
