Murkomen accused some of the bodaboda operators of engaging in crime, warning that the government would no longer tolerate law breach in the sector.
Speaking in Kisii on Friday, September 12, ahead of a security conference, Murkomen said criminal gangs had infiltrated the industry.
The minister said that they were using motorcycles to hide, beat and torture innocent people.
Murkomen emphasized that the operation would be run in firmness and justice without political interference.
The interior minister stressed that the government would take action without fear or favor, and political positions would not protect anyone from accountability.
“There is a great fear that some bodaboda drivers are kidnapped for criminal purposes in the name of political support, and they are on both sides of the political divisions,” Murkomen warned.
