Aroko, formerly a faithful ODM supporter, made the move following fears that the party would approve its competitor, Boyd Were, the son of the late MP Ong’ongo Were, to succeed his father.
The adoption of the possibility has sparked debate within the province, with some residents questioning the party’s decision.
What is the Arocho campaign?
In a romantic statement shared on his social networks, Arocho revealed his campaign symbol – Ote, the cultural settlement of chicks – which he described as a powerful metaphor for protection, care, and life.
He promised to protect the people of Kasipul against the ‘rivals’ of poverty, insecurity, poor health care, and abandoned.
“Otete is more than just cover,” Aroch wrote. “It represents the kind of leadership that protects every citizen, promotes every dream, and creates a future focused on dignity and opportunity.”
Aroko emphasized his commitment to improve health care, strengthen safety, and promote social stability.
“In an area where insecurity has increased for our people, Otete signifies safety and focus. How it covers and protects life, we must build a health care system that is actively serving the public, starting with the hospital and ensuring access to medicines to prioritizing maternal and child health,” He said.
He called for moving from divisive politics to the leadership of service, development, and empowerment.
For many years before the death of Were, Arocho had received local support throughout Kasipul counties through various programs, including paying school fees, drilling, improving roads, and supporting social groups without exception.
His independent effort puts a competitive environment in the November 27 elections, with voters evaluating inheritance politics against the promises of integrated leadership and reform.
Why was Boyd authorized to inherit his murdered father?
Boyd, who is currently serving in the Kenyan Tax Authority (KRA), has emerged as a candidate for Kasipul parliamentary seat.
He began his public service work in 2021, contributing to Kenya’s economic systems through tariffs and policy implementation.
Its history in financial oversight has given him a solid foundation in public administration and national development.
Prior to the funeral of the late MP, the ODM party announced its intention to retain the Kasipul seat within the Were family.
Evans Bird, Chairman of the ODM branch of Kasipul, confirmed that the party planned to fund one of the Were family members, either son or one of his wives, in the next election.

Was Arocho involved in the murder of Ongo Were?
Meanwhile, Arocho, a senior suspect in the investigation into the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ongo Were, was released from detention and was transformed into a state witness.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) made the decision not to continue the charges against him after reviewing the evidence.
Aroch had repeatedly denied the murder of the MP. His legal journey included the surrender of the authorities following the call, release of bail, and was later arrested again after other suspects were arrested.
