Murkomen, speaking during the Bungoma Security Forum on Thursday, September 4, said the government would not tolerate the renewal of gangs that were hunting for unexpected pedestrians.

He instructed the police commanders to be responsible for the fight against crime within their jurisdiction, emphasizing that the operations to disperse the groups are already underway.

He noted that many attacks are associated with groups pretending to be street children with knives and raw weapons.

“I want to convince you that the operation is ongoing and it will continue; it is a sustainable issue. The operation is ongoing on those issues and we will do something to make sure that is dealt with. Some of them, of course, are young, but that is not an excuse. We will deal with it,” Murkomen announced.

Murkomen strongly warns police officers

Murkomen acknowledged that the situation requires effective handling but emphasized it is not new.

He pointed out that minor crimes such as theft are under the daily duty of police officers at the station level and should not wait for national orders.

“Thank God we are discussing theft and challenges of this kind; there were times when we were discussing the worst challenges of robbery and cruelty and so on. The part of the conversation we do and we will have here that nothing should wait for national policy from CS or any other leader; He said.

Murkomen promised to continue the restoration operations, including inspecting the number of police in areas with intense lectures.

“If there is any weakness in terms of performance command, we will reorganize some of the officers who have the ability to assist and lead in resolving the issue,” he added.

He maintained the repression will not be temporary, promising to continue pressure until residents feel safe again.

How is Nairobi not safe?

Minister’s remarks follow several weeks of public concern, with Nairobi residents traveling to social networks to participate in traumatic events in CBD.

Victims have been reported to be followed, stolen in the afternoon, and in other cases threatened with knives or abused by groups pretending to be vulnerable street children.

Witness accounts indicate that these gangs regularly place themselves on busy roads such as Moi Avenue and Kimathi Street, mixing with the crowd before strike.
