Former Bungoma Governor, Wangamati has been detained in Kilimani, blaming Wetang’ula

He voluntarily surrendered to the Headquarters of the Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC) at the Integrity Hall, Nairobi, on Monday following the official call of detectives.

According to the Commission for Anti -Corruption, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had already approved the charges against several members and its allies.

This was due to allegations of misappropriation of millions of public shillings during his leadership.

The EACC mentioned more than ten trusted people related to companies used to loot Bungoma County resources.

In a statement released on Friday, August 29, EACC’s Chief Executive Officer, Abdi Mohamud, ordered all those mentioned to appear in the Integrity Hall for official registration and brought to court.

“The defendants mentioned above should report to the EACC headquarters at 2am for registration and brought to court,” Part of the statement was read.

Is Wetang’ula stirring up the EACC’s misery?

Wangamati, who served as governor of Bungoma between 2017 and 2022, was taken to the Kilimani police station later that day, where he was expected to sleep cells.

He is charged with a misappropriation of Ksh70 million, charges he has vehemently denied.

Speaking to the media, Wangamati claimed that these legal problems he faces are part of a broad political plan aimed at undermining his goal of re -running the governor in 2027.

In a video distributed online, Wangamati also appeared to blame the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, for his current misery, though he did not provide any evidence to prove the allegations.

“People are well aware that I have a chance to contest the Bungoma governor in 2027. Someone wants to bring his brother to run for the seat. But I’m sure this legal process will end, they will wash me. All claims are false,” He said.

Was Hillary Barkok supposed to arrive at the EACC?

Elsewhere, the governor of BometHillary Bartok, also came before EACC officials on Monday after her attempt to prevent arrest through a Supreme Court request to hit the rock.

Barchok claimed that his rights to gain an administrative process of justice, political participation, and respect were in danger following the EACC’s proposal to submit his file to the ODPP.

The governor is facing an investigation into the allegations of money laundering and illegally enriching himself by spending millions of public shillings.

The arrest of these high -ranking officials comes as the EACC is continuing a strong search against corruption, a move that has seen several current and former county leaders called for interviews in recent months.

Does the EACC fail to fulfill its obligations?

In a related event, a social group of law on the street and attorney Danstan Omari They blamed the EACC for undermining the fight against corruption through poor investigations.

They said that the commission often exacerbates the arrest of the suspects without completing the investigation, which contributes to the frequent release of the suspects.

Omari announced a plan to file a request to oppose the EACC legitimacy, saying it had failed to find guilt despite the huge resources they were given.

Noted that other investigative agencies, including DCI And KWS, they work calmly with prosecutors, unlike the EACC which is often involved in public blame.
