Speaking to reporters on Friday, August 29, after anxiety in the Senate, Mutai mentioned that he knew his wife and children were praying asking God to help him survive his accusation.

“For many pastors who even stand here have knelt down, they have been shutting down, I wanted to thank my wife and my children, I know they have taken their time to pray, even as we speak, now she is a vigil with a group of women in the county,” Mutai said.

He also expressed his gratitude to his legal team, which was led by Advocate Katwa Kigen. He recognized their efforts in ensuring that he did not lose his Kericho governor’s seat.

The governor also thanked the 18 members of the county parliament who stood with him and expressed their concern about his removal at the county level.

“Although their positions and voices were not considered in Parliament, but today when we stand here, God has justified us. And surely God is the second God,” He said.

He acknowledged the fact that he was not perfect and flawed, like the head of Kericho County. He called the MCAS they wanted him out of the office to put their differences aside and work with him for improvement in the county.

“Satan is disappointed today. And the truth has manifested itself. And I don’t want to say much,” he added.

During the hearing of his charges, the senators voted that the threshold to remove Mutai in office had not been reached.

Following this, 16 senators voted to support his removal motion while 25, who were the majority, opposed the removal of Mutai.
