“We are asking the government to engage us in the development of the social economy because economic empowerment and inclusion in the county government does not provide youth rights and the responsibility to participate,” Said Mawia.
Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, August 27, young people, were offered from different fields, including legal, teaching, and activists, also called for gender issues to be prioritized in county programs, as well as the development of solutions to the challenges facing endangered young people.
Maureen Atieno and Afsa Riyaz, both young people from Mombasa, claimed the county had excluded young people from all development processes. They demanded a complete inclusion.
“Mombasa has no transparency in all processes. We have witnessed problems in facilitating projects as some of the current empowerment by the county is political,” Said Otieno.
“The absence of youth centers is a huge gap; we have really been suffering because there are no youth centers, even after the budget is set aside to set up these key centers. We want to see these facilities and we also want to know the budgets allocated,” Added another youth leader.
Groups believe that negotiations will set a way to a major partnership with the county government to promote youth development.
