The President’s announcement was signed and released on Monday, August 25, 2025.

Why should Kenyans celebrate the day of the Constitution?

Ruto noted that on August 27, 2010, it represented the historic time in Kenya when the new constitution came into effect, bringing the rule targeting citizens, division, equal development, and protection of basic justice and freedom.

“I, William Samoei Ruto, President and the top commander of the Kenyan People’s Defense Force, with the authority that reached me through the Constitution, here I announce that August 27, 2025, and every 27th of August from now, it will be celebrated as ‘Constitution Day’ in honor of the announcement of the Kenyan Constitution 2010,“Said the President.

The national leader noted that the 15th Anniversary of the Constitution coming in 2025 is a unique opportunity to look at and celebrate what is being considered as broadly as one of the most active constitutions in the world.

“It is good for Kenyans to celebrate this day as a reminder of our collective role to focus, preserve, protect, and implement the Constitution,” Ruto said.

What will Kenyans do on the day of the Constitution?

According to the announcement, on August 27, 2025, and every 27th August from now, it will be celebrated as a constitutional day across the country and in all Kenyan diplomatic missions in the world.

The day will be offered to revive the nation’s promise to the Constitution, Administration, and the Act of Law through Civil Movement and Mobilization.

The Constitutional Day will remain a work day, but government institutions and schools will have to plan and participate in civil activities that promote the understanding of the Constitution and the participation of citizens.

Did Raila want the reform?

Other news, one week ago, ODM leader Raila Odingaone of the main designers of the 2010 Constitution that facilitated the county system, wanted to improve and expand the county responsibilities.

At the 2025 summit, he suggested that governors serving in the second period to receive a pension, such as the second -term MPs.

He also suggested gifts to the best performing counties, the removal of the County Development Fund (CDF), road and county management, and a complete deduction of all county responsibilities, including education.
