Nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian has obtained temporary court orders protecting her from her estranged boyfriend, Musa Hussein Lenyumpa, banning him from contacting or harassing her in any way.
In his ruling, Magistrate Festus Terer prohibited Musa from assaulting, threatening, harassing, or interfering with the senator’s well-being. The court also barred him from using her name, image, or likeness for personal or commercial gain, publishing any information about her, or accessing her home or workplace until further orders are given.
Represented by lawyer Danstan Omari, the ODM-nominated Senator told the court that their relationship was limited to a Samburu customary courtship, which she later called off.
She stressed that no dowry had been paid and clarified that the Ksh100,000 “ropiyani e loip” he gave her was only a traditional token in Samburu culture – an amount she has since fully returned.
The senator claims that the harassment has severely affected her privacy, safety, and professional reputation. She accuses Musa of death threats, physical assault, including an incident that caused a nosebleed, as well as spreading false hearsay of her marrying her.
Hezena Lemaletian further alleges Musa has used Twitter and other social media and bloggers to disparage her, actions she alleges have put her at risk and jeopardized her political aspirations.
The matter will be heard inter partes on September 22, 2025, when the two parties will debate whether the protection orders should be extended or amended.
