Nairobi motorists have been urged to avoid Thika Road this Sunday, August 10, as the city prepares for the high-stakes CHAN 2024 encounter between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Morocco’s Atlas Lions at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The match, which kicks off at 3:00 PM, has already sold out, with tens of thousands of fans expected to fill the 48,000-seater stadium.
To manage the anticipated traffic surge and enhance security, the National Police Service has announced several road closures and diversions.

Aerodrome Road will be closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout, while one side of Lang’ata Road will be shut from Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout.
Similarly, one side of Mombasa Road will be closed from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.
Traffic from Mombasa Road heading to the city centre will be diverted through Likoni–Enterprise Road near General Motors or via the Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.

Motorists from Lang’ata Road are advised to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road through Mbagathi Roundabout.
Those travelling from the city centre towards Thika, Ruiru or Juja should use Limuru or Kiambu Road, while vehicles from Thika Road heading into the CBD are encouraged to use the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road or Limuru Road.
Matatus ferrying passengers to Kasarani will be routed through Ruaraka Baba-Ndogo Road and Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo Roundabout.
