1. The SturDay Standard
The newspaper reports that Parliament’s oversight responsibility is under strict supervision following allegations that the National Assembly and the Senate protect the government from accountability.
Claims to claim leasing, political preferences, and affected committees forums have emerged, questioning the integrity of parliamentarians.
The controversy erupted again during a session of the National Assembly Committee on Thursday in which Tourism Minister Rebecca Miano faced questions about the renovation of KSh31.6 billion in Kenya.
MPs, led by Innocent Mugabe, sought clarification on who approved the project without Parliament’s approval, warning of the KICC Sh3 billion purchase scam.
Concerns intensified when the committee’s chairman, Kareke Mbiuki, appeared to ignore difficult questions, causing allegations that MPs were protecting the minister.
The project, administered by the Ministry of Defense, raised further doubts about tender and transparency processes.
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia claimed that MPs had changed their management authority with money, tender and employment preferences.
Onyonka claimed that Kenyans were “alone” with officials taking part in the trophy. The Senate has faced such accusations.
Recently Onyonka withdrew from a financial committee meeting after accusing members of defending Treasury Minister John Mbadi instead of questioning Kenya’s growing debt.
He warned that the amendment of the Public Financial Management Act has allowed the presidency to borrow for general use without proper checks.
Previous scandals have strengthened this concern. The Senate investigation of the murder of Shakahola in 2023 sparked criticism on the committee’s conduct questioned by resource use.
Despite denying from committee chairman Danson Mungatana, the questions remain whether Parliament can hold the executives.

According to the daily Swahili newspaper, Kenya will follow diplomacy instead of retaliating to respond to a new policy of Tanzania banning foreigners from doing some small businesses.
The move, which Nairobi fears could harm Kenyan investors, is affecting the 15 sectors listed in Tanzania.
Cabinet Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi told parliamentarians in Nairobi that although Kenya does not agree with Tanzania’s investment policies, it will seek negotiations to avoid increasing trade violence.
In the presence of the National Assembly Committee on the regional compatibility, Mudavadi addressed issues of trade conflicts involving Tanzania and Uganda.
He emphasized that diplomacy is better than confrontation and promised to write to a Tanzanian counterpart on policies that seem to violate the East African Community Convention, which allows people, workers and goods to travel free.
Although the number of Kenyan businesses are likely to be affected, Nairobi considers such barriers to be discriminatory against its investors.

Also wants the commissioner’s commissioner of Kra Humphrey Wattanga and Attorney General Dorcas Oduor should be punished for the same offense.
Judge Mwita had decided on the case, KSh50 to Kenyans and $ 1 for foreign activities except the abolition of the treasury, unlawful, unconstitutional, and double -tariffs.
He also canceled a government directive requiring school fees and other charges for public education institutions to be paid through the forum, saying it was nonsense and without accountability where the money was going.
On his papers in court, Gikenyi accuses the officers of promoting the tariffs by not paying attention to the ruling, warning that this tradition of ignoring the court’s orders is undermining the rule of law.
He emphasizes that the decision was clear, compelling, and should be considered unless it should be dismissed by the highest court, something that has not been done.
Judge Mwita’s decision emphasized that Kenyans and foreigners cannot be forced to use a system that they did not apply or be made to maintain it through additional charges.
The decision banned the Ministry of Treasury, ICT, and education from making e-Citizen a mandatory way of paying school fees.
