IEBC says all the pending sub -elections will take place on November 27

  • The IEBC commission has organized a small referendum in the country to take place on November 27 this year
  • This will be the first test for the commission as it prepares for the 2027 general election
  • Seventeen wards, six constituencies, and counties will participate in small votes to choose their new MCAs. MPs and senators

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced November 27 as a day of elections in 24 areas in various parts of the country.

Some Kenyans have missed representation in the county parliament and the national parliament, while others for more than two years, due to the deaths or resignations of the leaders they elect in the 2022 general elections.

Where will the small options take place?

A total of 17 wards in 14 counties will participate in the upcoming small votes.

Chairman of IEBC Erastus Ethekon published a notice in the Government Gazette about the by -elections on Saturday, August 9.

They are; Angata Nanyokie Ward (Samburu County), Center/Kapng’etuny (Nandi County), Chewani Ward (Tana River County), Fafi Ward (Garissa County), North Kariobangi Ward (Nairobi County), Eastern Ward (Kakamega County). Elgeyo Marakwet County, Mumbuni North County), Purko Ward (Kajiado County), Ward Ward (Uasin Gishu County), Nyansioni Wards, Nyamaiya, and Ekerenyo (Nyamira County), and Lake and Nanaam County wards (Turkana County).

A notification announced in a government newspaper for the Chwewe ward in Bungoma County is scheduled for Monday, August 11.

The minority elections will also be held in the six constituencies which are; Banissa, Kasipul, Car, Malava, North Mbeere, and Ugandan, and Baringo’s senatorial seat.

IEBC rules for candidates in the next sub -election

The commission set a basic rules for adherence to political parties and who want to allow reliable elections.

Public servants who look at all the above -mentioned positions have been required to resign from their positions by August 16, seven days after the Government newspaper notice.

Political parties that will suspend their candidates have been given until October 2 to submit the names, this is after the party’s party or internal nomination procedures.

Free candidates have until September 17 to submit their contest forms, and should not be members of any political party for at least three months before November 27, the date of the by -elections.

Political parties and candidates have until November 11 to submit their electoral agents.

The campaigns are scheduled for only six weeks, between October 8 and November 24, running between 7 am and 6 pm.

The commission said it would use a list of voters published in June 2022 and which was used in the general election that year.

Candidates who violate the Election Code of Electoral and the rules laid down will be removed and accompanied by the penalties set out in the Election Act 2026, the IEBC warned.

The by -election is likely to be the IEBC test as it prepares to take the country to the 2027 general election.

What the IEBC chairman promised 2027 Kenyans

During his inauguration, Ethekon assured Kenyans that he would manage a neutral team that would protect the vote of voters on the ballot.

In his first speech, the chairman was grateful that the election was an important demonstration of democracy and called on Kenyans to support the commission in implementing the justice processes.
