Thomas Partey Gets Temporary Relief on Rape Charges, Free to Join Villarreal

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is now free to join La Liga club Villarreal after a London court granted him a relief over the rape charges he is facing.

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing in court on Tuesday to face rape and sexual assault charges.

The 32-year-old faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to three different women. The alleged offenses reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey denies all charges.

The brief hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court saw Partey confirm his understanding of the charges and bail conditions, but he was not required to enter a plea. The case has been transferred to the Old Bailey for trial, with his next court appearance scheduled for September 2.

Partey’s initial arrest took place in July 2022, although his identity was not revealed publicly at the time. He continued to play for Arsenal while investigations were underway.

The Ghanaian international joined Arsenal in 2020 for £45 million from Atletico Madrid and made 52 appearances for the club last season. His contract expired at the end of June, making him a free agent.
