Several people are feared dead after a light aircraft operated by the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) crashed into a residential building on Thursday afternoon in the Mwihoko area of Ruiru, Kiambu County.

The aircraft burst into flames shortly after impact, with witnesses reporting a loud explosion followed by thick smoke.

A multi-agency response team, including officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the National Police Service (NPS), and the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), was deployed to the scene near Githurai 45 as rescue operations got underway.

Emergency responders from the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) and the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) also joined efforts to put out the fire and search for survivors.

Police and military officers cordoned off the area as officials from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) launched investigations into the cause of the crash.
