Game Over? Man United Submit Blockbuster Bid for Benjamin Sesko in Effort to Beat Newcastle

Manchester United have finally made formal their interest to sign striker Benjamin Sesko after submitting their offer amid another bid from rivals Newcastle.

Newcastle United attempted to beat Manchester United to the signing of striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. However, on Tuesday afternoon, United submitted an official offer of €85 million.

Fabrizio Romano reported Tuesday afternoon that following Newcastle’s €90 million bid for Benjamin Sesko, Manchester United submitted an €85 million offer, including bonuses, on Monday, according to Bild.

Currently, the Red Devils are favourites to land the highly sought-after striker. United were waiting for a signal from the player before making an official offer and appear to have received a positive response.

The Magpies are close to missing out on their fifth target this transfer window, after Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike, and James Trafford. All chose to sign with Premier League giants, leaving Newcastle empty-handed. Furthermore, Eddie Howe’s side risks losing striker Alexander Isak, who is highly sought after by Liverpool.

Manchester United have been urged to walk away from a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and prioritise a problematic position in the team.

According to The Sun, Newcastle made a new offer to RB Leipzig for Sesko on Monday. After initially proposing €70 million plus up to €10 million in bonuses, they added another €10 million to the fixed fee. This means the Slovenian striker’s price could ultimately reach €90 million!

The Sun also reveals that Newcastl took this step after receiving positive signals from Sesko, who is also being pursued by United. According to transfer specialist David Ornstein of The Athletic, RB Leipzig would currently prefer to sell to the Magpies over Old Trafford.

“Newcastle are eager to receive a response one way or the other within the next 24 hours, to know what to do next,” the publication states. The club is also under pressure from Alexander Isak, who is pushing for approval to transfer to Liverpool. They hope to receive €170 million from this deal, which would finance the Sesko transfer.

United manager Ruben Amorim still hopes to bring the Slovenian alongside Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in a completely revamped attack. The Portuguese manager’s problem? He must first offload Rasmus Hojlund, a striker who has severely underperformed in the Premier League, to generate new funds.
