Media Star Joyce Gituro Retracts Comment on Pastor’s Suspension Scandal

Media personality Joyce Gituro has publicly apologized after facing backlash for her comment on a post announcing the suspension of Nairobi Baptist Church’s Senior Pastor, Rev. Munengi Mulandi, over allegations of misconduct.

Gituro admitted she spoke out without fully understanding the gravity of the situation. She initially assumed the matter was an internal church issue and responded out of concern for what appeared to be public humiliation. Upon learning the full context, she retracted her statement and deleted the comment.

“I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal disciplinary matter and reacted to what seemed like public shaming. Once I learned the truth, I deleted the post,” she explained.

The former radio host also expressed genuine remorse for her swift reaction and reaffirmed her stand against abuse in all forms.

“Let me be clear: I stand firmly against all forms of abuse, especially as a mother and a Christian. I stand with the victims. I totally regret my fast reaction to that story,” she added.

Before taking down her comment, Gituro had questioned the church’s decision to make the suspension public, suggesting that it could damage the pastor’s reputation.

“Why put it on social media? You’re damaging a brother even more,” she had written.

The Nairobi Baptist Church issued the statement on August 3, declaring that its Elders Council not only suspended Rev. Mulandi but also revoked his ordination upon analyzing his conduct. The church also announced an independent investigation to determine the nature and magnitude of the alleged abuse.

While the church has not released specific details, its authorities have appealed to members to remain prayerful and united as they navigate today’s crisis.
