Siaya deputy governor James Oduol has spoken following the growing rumors about the governor’s absence in the office.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 5, Oduol acknowledged the governor’s absence and addressed Siaya residents, promising his loyalty and commitment to constitutional leadership.
“Given the recent events and the absence of the governor in the office for a while, I would like to address them with great respect and a strong dedication to the constitution and responsible leadership,” He said.
He noted that his role as deputy governor has been clearly defined under section 179 of the Constitution, which sets the structure of the county executive committee.
He emphasized his position as the governor’s assistant and showed the unstable support for the leadership and authority of the Orengo.
Oduol warns the county legislature against taking over the Orengo responsibility
The deputy governor continued to issue a strong warning to the Siaya County parliament, cautioning against engaging in administrative responsibilities excluded from the governor.
He reminded the Assembly of its constitutional boundaries, and wanted to focus solely on its legislative and management functions.
“I call on all leaders and institutions, especially the Speaker of the County Assembly George Okode, to respect this division of authority and to protect institutional boundaries that ensure good governance and constitutional system,” Oduol said.
He also reminded employees and county officials that their actions must be in line with the national values and administrative regulations set out in section 10 of the Constitution.

Is there a hostility between Oduol and Orengo?
Oduol also spoke of the initial differences between him and the governor, acknowledging that disagreements have emerged.
However, he emphasized that they had not shaken his respect for the office or his commitment to serving the Siaya people.
“While the misunderstanding is sad, he does not deprive me of my deepest respect for his office, and he also does not bother me from our collective commitment to serve. He wrote.
Oduol said he would speak to Orengo in the consultation when he returned and also proposed negotiations organized by the county legislature to confirm the performance of their relevant offices.
He also assured residents to continue his service, which focuses on diligence, humility and integrity to the law.
“I will continue to fulfill my duties faithfully and in full compliance with the legitimate instructions of the governor, in serving our people,” he added.

Oduol was dismissed by the county legislature in June 2023 after disagreeing with the governor. However, he was returned by the Senate for lack of sufficient evidence to prove the allegations made against him.
Prior to his removal, DG had accused the governor of poorly managing the county’s money and giving the partners to receive the money.
Did governor James Orengo resign?
In a matter of fact, TUKO.co.ke reported that Okode dealt with rumors claiming Orengo resigned.
The allegations emerged after a letter allegedly signed by the governor spread online and raised concerns about his health and continued to remain in power.
Okode dismissed the letter as fake and said it had no official foundation. He explained that Orengo had not submitted a letter of resignation and insisted that the governor was still in office.
He added that Orengo was abroad for a while for personal affairs and that county activities were left without interruption during his absence.
The Speaker blamed political activists for stirring up misconceptions and accusing them of trying to undermine the orengo regime.
