Garissa: 9 police officers injured in a blast attack associated with al-Shabaab

Garissa: Nine police officers suffered injuries on Tuesday, August 5, after their military vehicle hit an explosive (IED) explosion in the compound-Yumbis area of Fafi County.

The explosion is suspected of being trapped by al-Shabaab militants, signaling another attack in the fragile area.

According to the report of Daily NationGarissa County Commissioner Mohamed Mwabudzo confirmed the sad case.

The officers, who are in the Border patrol unit (BPU), were traveling about 10 kilometers from the city of Yumbis when the explosion occurred.

They were immediately removed and taken to the Hospital of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) at the Hagadera Refugee Camp for treatment. No reported deaths.

Security forces quickly responded to the scene and protected the area.

Photos from the scene showed the armored vehicle burned down and overturned, showing the severity of the blast.

The recent attack reveals the ongoing threat by Al-Shabaab based in Somalia, which continues to target Kenyan security officials through road bombs, bombs, and crossing border invasion, especially in areas near the Kenyan and Somali border.

The attack occurred just weeks after the same incident occurred in Lamu and Mandera.

The Lamu accident resulted in the deaths of three Kenyan Defense Force (KDF) soldiers and seven others injured.

The explosion occurred in the Badaah area on Kiunga-Sankuri Road as troops returned from transport officers to Sankuri.

Meanwhile, in Mandera, seven police officers were injured after their car crashed into IED along the Gadudia-Laga road in Mandera East.

The officers were in regular patrols, traveling from Bambo to Mandera, when an explosion occurred between Aresa and Khalalio, about four kilometers west of Mandera police station.

5 people die in a multi -car accident in Gilgil

Other news, five people were confirmed dead following a fatal road accident involving numerous vehicles on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway in Mbaruk in Gilgil.

According to a traffic control unit officer in the County Nakuru Allan Ogolla, the accident involved a trailer, a salon car, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota Fielder.
