In a recent interview, the singer revealed that his real father, Salum Idi Nyange, separated from his mother, Mama Dangote, while Diamond was still very young.
After the separation, Mother Diamond married her stepfather, Elder Abdul, and the singer grew up believing that Elder Abdul was his biological father.
In an interview on Way Up with Angela Yee, Diamond shared an emotional journey to discover his real father.
“I knew him as my father, and that’s what I used to believe, because that’s what my mother told me. But his mother, who had to be my grandmother, never wanted me,” Diamond explained.
Reflecting on his early childhood, he said that it was his rejection by his stepfather that eventually made him suspicious of his roots.
“My mother loved her so much … she would come home, but they lived differently. Whenever she came, I tried to go to her room, but I never felt welcomed. Maybe her mother understood that I wasn’t her granddaughter. She never wanted my mother, and I never understood why. Every time I went there, I didn’t get the same excitement.
It was not until later in life when Diamond learned the truth about his adoptive father. She clearly remembered how the truth was revealed to her by her aunt – her mother’s sister.
“One day, I was home, feeling stress and hungry, staying with my aunt and talking about my father. He asked me why I kept mentioning my father. Then he asked me if I would eat or go to school.

Then, in the conversation, her aunt made a shocking statement.
“He said, ‘There is a boy called Salum, I feel it’s your father.’ I was very shocked, and said, ‘I will direct you somewhere, don’t tell your mother, but go there ask your father, he was working in the market, if you find him tell him that you are Sandra’s baby.
Daimond to meet with his biological father for the first time
Diamond followed her aunt’s instructions and went to the market, where she met her adoptive father for the first time.
“I went there, and he hugged me. I remember he gave me money and rice-he was a general rice supplier. It was the first time you had seen my father give me money. I was very happy. It wasn’t far from home, so I started going there every day.”
How many children does Diamond have?
In addition to her family history, Diamond also opened up about her personal life, especially her children. He admitted that he did not know the total number of children he had.
“I have many children and women, and other children I have been told are mine may not be my biological.”
Still, he noted that he is maintaining a good relationship with his mother all his children, although he explained that there is no romantic relationship between them.
