- High -level African leaders meet in Nairobi to discuss the progress made in the Peace process of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is among the leaders attending a meeting to evaluate the state of the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Nairobi White House is a joint meeting of the EAC-SADC fellow chairpersons and the panel of the DRC peace process facilitators.
The meeting is chaired by the President William Ruto Kenya, who is the Chairman of the EAC, and President Emerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, who is the Chairman of SADC. Uhuru attended the conference in his post as manager of the peace process.

Ruto waited in front of the stairs heading to the newly built pavilion, which welcomes prominent guests.
The two leaders seemed to be greeting each other and had a photo opportunity before entering the conference hall.
Others who attended the highest conference aside from Independence and Mnangagwa, are Chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Youssouf, Catherine Samba-Panza, a representative from the Central African Republic, Sahle-Work Zewde, representing Ethiopia, and Mokgweetsi Eric Kabetswe Masisi (Botswana).
The former president of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, another facilitator aside from Independence, attends the conference closely.
The Friday meeting comes five months after another joint meeting of the EACSADC chiefs in Dar es Salaam.
The summit convened on February 8 focused on addressing the conflict and providing permanent peace in addressing the escalating conflict in Goma.
Important in the agenda was the coordination of peace plans for EAC By SADC and linking the Nairobi and Luanda process in a single strategy to seek a permanent solution to the Eastern DRC crisis.

Although the EAC has previously decided to resolve the DRC issue, there has been concerns about how effective the union is.
A few months back, President Paul Kagame accused DRC president Felix Tshisekedi of jeopardizing the EAC’s efforts to solve the challenge in Goma.
This was after Tshisekedi ignored an online conference led by Ruto to assess the crisis. However it is not lost that Kagame and Tshisekedi have been in conflict, accusing each other of the M23 rebels in eastern DRC.
Rwandan president has also been disagreed with South African president Cyril Ramaphosa, who had claimed that the M23 rebels were supported by forces from Kigali.
This was after a group of rebels captured the strategic city of Goma in January this year, causing The procession Large and imprisoned and released more than 4,000 prisoners. 13 South African soldiers were killed.
