East African Parliament (EALA) MP David Ole Sankok has opened up about his journey of life, revealing how losing his leg at the age of 12 has been the basis of his political achievements and personal growth.

Commenting on his disability during an interview at his home in Narok, Sankok said that although his situation came with challenges, it also brought unique opportunities that had created his work.
How did Sankok’s cut leg?
He cited his lost leg as the source of his election in leadership positions, including his appointment in parliament as a representative of people with disabilities.

“There are challenges, yes, but they are there to strengthen us,” Sankok told KBC Heart & Soul presenter Raych. “I am in parliament today because of this foot. My car has a sticker of people with disabilities, and I will not be paid anywhere.
He narrated a funny but heartfelt event with a pastor who at one time tried to pray for him to recover.
“The pastor tried to pray for me, but I told him, ‘Hind!’ If this foot is healed, I will lose my job, ” He said, referring to his responsibility to represent people with disabilities. “Even if I was healed, I would break my leg again with a hammer.
This confession left the host bursting in laughter, and he could not restrain himself.

While studying at the University of Nairobi, Sankok lost his crutches and was forced to crawl, causing injuries and bruises.
In need of help, he and a group of friends sought help from a senior government official, and found that he was abroad.
One guard directed them to the assistant minister known for his sympathy – William Ruto.
“When he saw the bruises on my leg, Ruto began to cry,” Sankok remembered. “When I saw the minister’s assistant crying, I knew I had a joke.”
He said he adorned his story a bit to attract Ruto’s feelings, telling him he had entered the toilets and ate with the same fingers, which affected his self -esteem.
“Ruto stopped me and asked me the cost of the crutches. I told him to help anything he had,” Sankok narrated. “He gave me Ksh 20,000, and I jumped on one leg for happiness.”
Although Ruto shared his communications reports, Sankok admitted that he was overwhelmed. He also expressed frustration when some of his companions decided to share the money.
“The crutches cost KSh 300 at the time. They gave it and divided the remaining money for three,” He said. “But I didn’t accept it – each of them still carried me on his back.”
