Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has fired back at Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro over his recent critique about government borrowing and fiscal discipline.
In a pointed rebuttal, Junet questioned Nyoro’s credibility, reminding Kenyans of his past role as chair of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.
“Those who’ve benefited from billions of loans taken on behalf of the entire country should not be suddenly clever,” Junet captioned a video of his remarks on X yesterday.
He argued that Nyoro’s sudden criticism of debt securitisation and public borrowing rings hollow, given his silence when he held a key position in managing the country’s finances.
“Nimeona ndugu yangu mmoja sasa amekuwa suddenly clever mingi. Yeye sako iko na akili ming, anaongea mingi na anajua mingi na juzi ndio amekuja bungeni amenipata hapo. Anaitwa Ndindi Nyoro, nimesikia juzi anapiga serikali kwa mambo ya uchumi,” Junet said.
Loosely translated: (I’ve seen that one of my brothers has suddenly become very clever. He now acts like he’s full of knowledge – talks a lot, claims to know a lot – and yet he only just arrived in Parliament and found me already there. His name is Ndindi Nyoro. I recently heard him attacking the government on economic matters)
Junet Mohamed took a swipe at Ndindi Nyoro, questioning the source of his newfound economic expertise. He mocked Nyoro’s recent criticism of the government, sarcastically suggesting that the MP must have attended an adult education program to acquire his current views.
“Sijui shule gani yeye ameenda baada ya sisi kungoa yeye kwa chairman ya budget…hii miezi mbili sijui alienda kusoma shule gani. Kwa sababu hiyo akili hakuwa nayo wakati alikuwa chairman ya budget…hii shule ya ngumbaru ambayo amesoma mwezi mbili, sijuii inapatikana Kangema ama Kiharu, Inapatikana wapi?”
This translates to: (I don’t know which school he went to after we removed him as Budget Committee chair… These past two months, I have no idea where he studied. Because he didn’t have that kind of intelligence when he was chair of the budget committee. Maybe he went to some adult education school just for two months. I don’t know whether that school is in Kangema or Kiharu. Where is that fake school located?)
“Wewe unajifanya uko na akili mingi. Hiyo akili peleka pahali pengine sio hapa Kenya.”
Translated: (You act like you’re so smart. Please take that intelligence somewhere else, not here in Kenya.)

The Suna East MP defended the government’s approach to borrowing, saying infrastructure projects like roads, water systems, and schools can only be achieved through strategic financial sourcing, including loans. He reminded Nyoro that Parliament had already approved the securitisation model through legislation.
“Securitasiation inaruhusiwa katika sheria. Tulipitisha bunge…iko katika Roads Act kama hujasoma ndugu yangu. Mambo ya kukopesha deni lazima Serikali kukopesha ili ilete sisi maendeleo.”
(Securitisation is allowed by law. We passed it in Parliament…it’s in the Roads Act, in case you haven’t read it, my brother. When it comes to borrowing, the government must take loans to bring us development)
Junet also took a personal jab at Nyoro, accusing him of being out of touch with the struggles of ordinary Kenyans.
“Wewe kama umetosheka, sisi ndio tunahitaji barabara, tunahitaji stima, tunahitaji maji, tunahitaji karo ya shule,. Inaonekana wewe umetosheka.” (If you feel satisfied, good for you. But we are the ones who still need roads, electricity, water, and school fees. It seems like you’ve already had your fill)
He further mocked Nyoro’s apparent change in lifestyle, noting, “Nimeona siku hizi nguo yako imebadilika, unavaa suti ya bei juu. Nimekupima siku izi. So, hio shule yako peleka pahali pengine.”
(I’ve noticed that lately your wardrobe has changed, you now wear expensive suits. I’ve been watching you these days. So please, take your so-called education elsewhere)
