Collins Ekutung, the viral Kenyan sensation famously known as the “Statue Man”, has opened up about his journey to fame and the unwavering support he has received from his fans.

Speaking during the Obinna Show Live on Monday night, July 21, 2025, Ekutung revealed that he is currently being hosted by fans in Lang’ata, Nairobi, who have supported him every step of the way.

Ekutung shared that the fans who came across his content on social media after his statue-like performances began gaining traction were the same people who paid his fare from Lodwar to Nairobi.

Ni Mafan wamenieka Lang’ata nawashukuru sana, hadi Kuja huku ni wao walinichangia fare kutoka Turkana hadi hapa,” Statue Man reveals.

These fans, who saw potential in his unique talent, also offered him accommodation and have continued to support him as he navigates his newfound fame. During the interview, he paid special tribute to three of his fans who had accompanied him to the show.

He further disclosed that almost all the costumes he uses to perform are bought by fans. In fact, he noted that some of the people who send him costumes remain anonymous, yet continue to contribute generously to his craft.

From body paint to accessories, Ekutung said he relies entirely on his supporters for everything he wears during his performances.

Wameninulia karibu kila kitu; nilikuja huku na koti tu, walinunulia karibu kila kitu hadi hii mshipi ni fan alininunulia,” he added.

His humble beginnings

The Turkana-born performer described his humble beginnings as a boda boda rider in Lodwar. Before going viral, Ekutung lived a quiet life until he noticed that his statue poses were drawing attention online.

Realising the momentum his content was gaining, he began exploring ways to reach Nairobi, a city he believed would provide greater opportunities to grow his brand and talent.

Ekutung also offered a glimpse into his personal life, revealing that he comes from a polygamous family of 16 children and is the last born.

He completed high school in 2022 and, surprisingly, got married while still in Form Two. He is now a father to a four-year-old daughter.
