Nairobi – President William Ruto He has announced the expansion of the two major environmental and infrastructure plans which he says will increase youth employment in the city and reorganize river systems and city roads.

How many young Nairobi River cleansing will hire?
Speaking on the street in Dandora during the inspection of the Nairobi river rebuilding project, the president announced that 20,000 more young people would be registered in the program Climate WorX starting next Monday, July 21, making the total number of young people employed under the program reach 40,000.
“Our workers’ migration programs have taken 400,000 young people, and 320,000 more are working through affordable housing,” Ruto said.
“Climate WorX alone currently has 20,000, and we will add twice next week. This is a real, visible program to empower our youth,” he added.
Challenged his political opponents to present reliable alternatives, saying that stimulating young people in The procession Not a policy alternative.
“We are challenging our competitors to make it clear their youth empowerment plan. An alternative to employment cannot be the incitement of chaos in the country,” the president added.
The president also emphasized a broader vision behind the Nairobi River renewal project, which he described as a social commitment.
“If God wills, we will clean up the Nairobi River until it is clean enough to have fish,” he said.
The plan to clean up the rivers, now in its advanced stages, has already created 20,000 jobs.
The Nairobi River Basin was designated as a special planning area (SPA) earlier this year, marking the beginning of the two -year partnership process to create an integrated development plan (IDP).
What other activities does the Climate WorX develop?
SPA, published in the Government Gazette on March 6, 2025, is an important part of the Government’s agenda to restore the environment and urban development under the 2019 physical and land planning law.
Targeting a 60 -meter area from Naivasha Road to Ruai, the project aims to turn decades of pollution, construction and waste disposal.
Officials have explained that SPA is not a decree to demolish but a legal instrument for development coordination in complex areas that requires intervention of various stakeholders.
The regeneration project aims to improve the environment, cities, and integrated development to promote clean and healthy capital.

Other developmental activities that Ruto has established in Nairobi
In his efforts to rehabilitate the capital, Ruto also launched a major urban road construction and renovation program, starting with 70 kilometers of city roads aimed at reducing congestion and promoting business.
Recently, he officially opened the newly renovated Savannah road. Step 17 -Msimba, a key belt that connects Embakasi East and Central Embakasi – two most populous areas in Nairobi.
