National Assembly Majority Whip and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has thrown his weight behind former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s recent call for a national conclave.

Speaking in Migori during a women’s empowerment programme on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Osoro said Raila’s call for a national dialogue is timely and necessary, emphasising that it’s important for the country to have a conversation.

Enough is enough; na baba Jana alisema ya kwamba we need a national dialogue, na sisi kama viongozi tunasupport what baba said ya kwamba people must talk,” Osoro said.

The UDA lawmaker also took a swipe at Martha Karua, who recently dismissed Raila’s proposal for an intergenerational conclave. Osoro told her that she has no say in the matter, claiming no one is interested in hearing from her. He said the conversation is national and involves Kenyans, not individual interests.

He reminded Karua of her lack of political influence, pointing out that she failed to deliver even her polling station during the last general election. According to him, she lacks the political ground to comment or challenge Raila’s initiative.

‘Nimeona Martha Karua akisema, ‘Ooh, at hatutaki utuongeleshe. Sisi hatutaki kukuongelesha. Tunaongea juu ya Wakenya. Ulidanganya, Baba, ati Utama, kura na polling station yako ukashindwa,’” he added.

Him slamming Gachagua

During the same event, Osoro criticised Gachagua, telling him to refrain from discussing the former prime minister. He said Raila Odinga is beyond Gachagua’s level and reminded him that without Raila, the country would not have enjoyed the peace it has today.

He dismissed Gachagua’s credibility, noting that he failed to rally even five MPs to defend him during his recent impeachment attempt, yet he continues to focus his energy on attacking Raila.

Niliona akiongea akiwa US, akikashifu hadi baba raila odinga, akisema, ‘Ooh, baba, siasa yake imeisha. Wewe wamunyoro. Kuja uongelee hapa migori vile siasa ya Raila imeisha, wacha kuongea ukiwa US,” he added.

Osoro went on to challenge Gachagua to make the same remarks about Raila while in Migori or any other part of Nyanza, rather than doing so abroad.

He concluded by stating that the political freedoms Gachagua currently enjoys are the result of Raila Odinga’s long struggle for democracy and justice in Kenya.
