The same was the case with Janet Shitandi, the mother of three from Nairobi, whose origin is Khwisero, Kakamega.

How did Janet Shitandi meet her husband?
The middle -aged woman said she met Matthew (not her real name) at a nightclub in Nairobi. Although he was older for 15 years, they loved each other.
Shortly afterwards, she became pregnant and agreed that she would be a second wife.
“He told me that he had a wife who lives in the village. When he decided to marry me, he brought him to Nairobi where we lived together and introduced me. He explained.
According to Janet, their relationship was peaceful for the early years until the conflict began after rebuking the eldest daughter of another wife for refusing to wash the dishes.
The girl told her father that Janet slapped her. Without listening to Janet, Matthew beat him badly.
Since then, Janet said she had no financial support, and there were times she was hungry.

How did Janet get her husband’s marriage certificate?
As the conflict intensified, Janet began to suspect that her husband had a romantic relationship outside of marriage.
She found romantic messages between her husband and a woman who knew her from a club in Nairobi, which clearly revealed they had a relationship.
“While all this was going on, I also confirmed that he was sleeping with a close friend. All of that hurt me a lot,” He explained.
When he confronted her, Matthew threatened to divorce and take all the children. The church intervened, and they continued to live together.
One day, while doing homework, Janet met a marriage certificate showing that Matthew had been married legally with a white woman.
He remembered that when he started a relationship with him, his old friend warned him that Matthew was a way and had been married to a white man, but he did not listen.
“After seeing the marriage certificate, everything understood me. I linked the events and confronted him.”Said Janet.
Matthew was not surprised nor showed regret. Instead, he ignored her and told her to stop exploring things that did not concern her.
He went back to the church, where Matthew was an elder of the church, hoping to get help. But the answer he received was disappointed.
“They told us to talk and solve our problems, but nothing changed. Finally, I was tired. He said.
The mother of three gathered herself and had the courage to leave marriage, saying she chose peace instead of pain.
He remains hoping that one day he will meet someone he will love and respect the way he deserves it.
“I am not in a hurry. But if I get married again, then he has to be a widow or never married at all,” He said.
