National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed has backed Raila Odinga’s calls for an inclusive national dialogue to help Kenya navigate its challenges.

Speaking in Bomet County on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the legislator noted how dialogue and consultations have helped the nation iron out its challenges, expressing optimism that the approach would achieve the same results.

“You heard the other day, Raila saying that Kenyans should sit and have an intergenerational conclave. It is dialogue that has seen us reach where we are now. Without dialogue, Kenyans will fight, he said.

The MP also dismissed those opposed to the proposal, adding that Raila was well placed to know the solutions to issues ailing the nation.

“Kenyans must be given the opportunity to talk where they are. You can’t stop people from talking and discussing matters of concern to them. I urged Kenyans to listen to his sentiments keenly. He is talking on our behalf, having listened to us. You know age comes with wisdom, so when Raila gives us directions, we should take time to listen,” he stated.

Junet’s sentiments mirror those made by Muranga Senator Joe Nyutu, who welcomed the idea if it prioritises the agenda of the youth of the country.

The senator justified this by pointing out that the youth hold the greatest stake in the country’s future.

“On that table, over 50 percent of the participants should be young people. Why should they be young people? Because young people have more shares. They have more shares in this country because they have lived longer to live than the rest of us who were born earlier,” he said.

Nyutu also highlighted the growing socio-economic challenges faced by the youth compared to previous generations.

“Those of us who were born earlier had opportunities. I did not struggle much to be employed as a Teacher Service Commission graduate teacher, but a youth graduating today with a Bachelor of Engineering degree will struggle to get employment.”
