Moja Expressway has announced the resumption of normal operation on the Nairobi Expressway following the temporary closure to facilitate the Nairobi City Marathon, which was held on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
In a statement via its official X account after the marathon ended on Sunday, July 6, 2025, the expressway operator announced that the road is now fully open to traffic following the successful fourth edition of the Nairobi City Marathon.
“The Nairobi Expressway is now fully open for traffic following the successful 4th edition of the Nairobi City Marathon. We are pleased to inform motorists that operations have resumed on the Nairobi Expressway,”Moja Expressway stated.
“Thank you for your patience and support. Safe travels.”

Closure
This comes after the Nairobi Expressway was completely shut from James Gichuru to JKIA in both directions from Saturday, 10:00 pm, to Sunday, 3:00 pm, to facilitate the smooth flow of the marathon.
Other routes that were affected include Waiyaki Way inner lanes, closed from midnight Sunday until cleared by authorities; Uhuru Highway, closed between the Southern Bypass and Langata Roundabout, as well as from Bunyala Roundabout to Kenyatta Avenue, from 12 AM to 2 PM; Mombasa Road, Southern Bypass, and Likoni Road, including roundabouts and CBD-bound exits, shut from 12:00 to 11:00 am; and Kenyatta Avenue, between PanAfric Hotel and Uhuru Highway, closed from 12 AM to 4 PM.
“The Nairobi Expressway will be completely shut from James Gichuru to JKIA in both directions from Saturday, 10:00 pm to Sunday, 3:00 pm,” the notice reads.
