Menengai High School are the Nakuru County Secondary Schools football champions.
They hammered Kirobon 6-0 in the finals played at Njoro Boys High School yesterday, after most of the final matches were rained off at Koelel High School on Friday evening.
As a result, Menengai earned their ticket to the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Regional Games set for Hills School in Eldoret from Wednesday.
It was a dream come true for the Menengai Boys, whose desire to win the national title had always been stopped at the regional championships.
In 2023, Menengai were defeated in the semi-finals of the regional championships by St Anthony Boys at Nakuru Boys High School.
“This time, we are ready to improve on where we left off two years back. It’s a step at a time,” head coach Peter Sechero told Standard Sports.
On their way up, Menengai defeated defending champions Jomo Kenyatta 2-1 in the semi-finals as Kirobon saw off Cheptuet 4-3 on post-match penalties after a one-all draw in regulation time.
Jomo Kenyatta resuscitated themselves by winning three titles in the boys’ rugby sevens, volleyball, and 3×3 basketball.
It was a tough match in the rugby sevens finals, which was won by a sudden death penalty for Jomo Kenyatta to emerge victorious on a 5-0 win against hosts Koelel High School.
In the 3×3 boys’ basketball, Jomo Kenyatta edged out Nakuru Day 19-12, coached by experienced Kenya Basketball Federation referee Patrick Nderitu.
“It was a tough match after they overcame us on height advantage against my point guards,” Nderitu said.
And Nakuru Girls will be in the regional championships for the third consecutive year as 3×3 girls’ basketball champions.
“We are happy to be back again. However, we need to improve our performance in the regional championships this time round,” head coach Charity Kebenei said.
